Vietnam is a big country in Southeast Far East. It covers 128,500 square miles ( 331,700 sq. Km ), making it a bit bigger than the state of New Mexico. It shares borders with Cambodia, China, and Laos, and has shore along the Gulf of Thailand, the Gulf of Tonkin, and the South China Sea. The land of Vietnam was first settled millennia gone. The Hong Bang Dynasty was the very first major power in Vietnam that we have got a record of, dating from before the 3rd century BCE. In the second century BCE, the Chinese attacked Vietnam, and though there were short periods of revolt when the Vietnamese reclaimed parts of their country, essentially it stayed under Chinese rule till the tenth century. In the fifteenth century nonetheless, the potent Ming Dynasty attacked Vietnam, seizing power and holding it for one or two decades and then was overthrown in turn by the Vietnamese Le Dynasty. The Le Dynasty went on to capture the capital of the southern Champa Dominion , and continued on to capture the capital of Laos also. In the 16th century Vietnam experienced a civil war, which effectively split the country in 2. In the latter eighteenth century 3 potent bros from the south revolted against the southern leaders, and went on to wage war on the northwards 1/2 the country, defeating the northwards ruler and the Chinese troops sent by the Qing Emperor to help him. The country was then split into 3 parts, with each bro controlling one. At the start of the 19th century one of the siblings conquered the other 2 portions of the dominion, unifying the country and, with some help from the Qing Emperor of China, giving it the name Viet Nam. Though the Western World had known about Vietnam as long ago as the Roman Empire, it was not till this period that they started to take much action in the area. The French especially took interest in the area, and Napoleon III sent gunships to the area to secure ports. By the late 19th century the French had secured the whole country, although many unsuccessful revolutionary movements sprang up over the following few decades. In the early twentieth century the nationalist movements commenced looking to creating an independent republic, and set about to learning the talents they felt were critical to make such a thing attainable.
This set the country on a course towards modernization and development with the end objective of autonomy. During WWII the Japanese caught Vietnam. When the Japanese surrendered to the Allies, the Red Party Viet Minh, controlled by Ho Chi Minh, reasserted autonomy as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The French moved in militarily to reclaim the country, eventually supporting the govt of Bao Dai together with the U. S. and Britain. The Chinese commenced supplying Ho Chi Minh with weapons, and fighting in the country continued thru the 1950s. In 1954, Vietnam was announced independent from France, with the country divided in 2 at the 17th parallel. With support from the US, South Vietnam commenced to wage war with the north, in an effort to stop Ho Chi Minh’s Red Party from dominating a unified Vietnam. The war raged on thru the 1960s and 1970s, and in 1975 South Vietnam dropped to the North. The newly-unified Vietnam right away adopted a Commie agenda, dictating reasonably totalitarian policies, and thru mismanagement damaging the economy severely. From 1978 to 1989, Vietnam fought a war with Cambodia, responding to Pol Pot’s Cambodia raiding Vietnamese territory. Beginning 1986, the Vietnamese central authority, though still Commie , started to commission a laissez faire market system. Since that time the Vietnamese economy has been rising, and is at present one of the swiftest growing economies in the world.
